There is No Need For Many Bayanat and Lectures..” Hazrat Moulana Maseehullah (رحمة الله‎)

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem.

Nahmadu wa nusalli ala Rasullihi Nabiyl Kareem. A’ma bad.

Our Sheikh, Moulana Maseehullah (رحمة الله‎) to say “for a person who thirsts a deep thirst for reformation Islaah, a thirst for the Akhira, a thirst for wanting to meet Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, a thirst for wanting to go to Jannah, there is no need for many Bayanat and lectures, etc

One small little Majlis, or a few minutes of admonishments and advice is more than enough to change that person’s life. We are saturated with Bayanat, lectures, advice, especially what with social media, being the norm, the new avenue for exchanging ideas, etc. It should not be that we immerse ourselves so much in listening and in gathering information whilst in the process we lose track of the important fact, and that is to attend to our own Nafs  and our own Shaitaan.

Remember one thing, whoever becomes Allah’s friend, it is impossible that he will not have any enemies. It has been explained before Nabi sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, had enemies, it was enmity, animosity, jealousy of such a nature that until today that animosity exists in the majority of mankind against Nabi sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. The Haqq will always triumph. Nabi sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam himself mentions that the Haqq will triumph. It will never be overpowered. Yes, there will be fewer and fewer people, but the Haqq will always, it will always manifest itself. Let’s focus on our own deeds for the Akhira.

Do not fall into the trap of giving preference to the affairs of other people’s problems at the expense of your own sukoon. This is a very vital principle which was the further of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala is being expounded and explained.

Remember the golden rule, first you look after your own self. From the Quranic Kareem we understand the Ayat in the 28th para where Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala explains “Ya ayuhal ladhina amanu qu an fussiqum wa ah’likum”, oh you believers first you save your own self.

First you look after your Salah, your wudu, your paaki, your napaaki, your halal, your haram, even before your husband and your children, your parents and your brothers and your sisters, first make sure that you are on the right track. Hidaayah is extremely precious, respected listener listeners. There is no greater wealth and no more greater treasure than being righteously guided by Allah Ta’ala.

Allah ala Ta’ala Himself says “Qul innal Huda HudalAllah.” There are many, many different people claiming to giveif Hidayat, that Hidaya which Allah gives, that gives that is the Hidaya.

So first we look after our own interests. It’s not selfishness. You can’t let your Fard salah go, in order to help somebody out of a problem. And this is also a unique and amazing fact, that people choose to create problems for themselves and expect other people to clean up the mess.

Often, we find people going to the Ulama, righteous Ulama and they complain about, for instance, wives being disobedient and a wife does not want to listen and the children are disrespectful. There’s a whole slew of problems… major problems.

The righteous Ulama, when they look at such people they pity them, they feeling sorry, they sympathize with them. They see something further than a problem itself.

They see a person who’s got a television, he probably would have a video, he’s not dressed in a Sunna manner, there’s no sign of Sunna appearance with a beard. It doesn’t appear that he his performing his Salah.

So, when you don’t respect Allah in the laws of Allah, where is your wife ever going to find it in a heart to give true respect to you, when we are disobedient to Allah, do you really think your teenage girl, boy is going to have respect for you? You are living in a world, which is a very, very deceptive world. Get our affairs right with Allah Pak and Allah Pak promise, He will set right our affairs.

You look at a woman, she is busy on social media late at night, WhatsApping people, demanding or instructing her husband not to try and go and see the messages and people she’s in touch with. Do you really, sister, believe that your husband is going to have any respect for you? You really believe it?! Forget it.! This type of liberalism, which is so much in vogue today, it’s so common, it’s destroying the morals and it’s destroying the Akhira and it’s destroying those wonderful set of rules which Allah Ta’ala has set out in the Sharia for the protection of a lady, for the protection of the female.

Just today I read, it’s shocking, in the UK, there are more than 8000 cases of girls being molested in schools alone. The MeToo movement. Look at the Australian Parliament, what is happening there?  When we hear or see or come across such news, then we must make a lot of Shukr, especially our sisters, that Ya Allah you have protected, my Haya, my integrity through that particular system, which You have created for me as my Creator and that is the Hijab system the system of Hijab. A lady who observed the correct Hijab, Wallah she is very safe, extremely safe.

May Allah Ta’ala grant us the taufeeq to have thirst for our own reformation. Constantly worry, constantly keep the tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah.

We imagine when you say Allah one time, Allah takes our name twice. When we think of Allah, Allah Ta’ala thinks of us, when we speak of Allah, it comes in a Hadith, Allah mentions us by name to an audience better that we have, the audience of the Malaika. When we make the Tasbihat, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala pays attention to us, how we are praising Him. Today you praise the person, tomorrow the same person is your arch enemy. Today you have an enemy, tomorrow he becomes your best friend. There is no tikaana (guarantee) with regards to Insaan, he is perpetually in a state of unpredictability. He doesn’t know, she doesn’t know, we don’t know how our mood will be in the next minute. What will confront us in the next minute? Allah is the only One.

Allah Ta’ala says Qulloo man alaihaalayha faan, wa yab qaa Wajhu  Rabbuka dhul jalalil wal Ikram.

Everything will perish upon the surface of the earth, only the countenance of your Lord will be forever and ever.

Khuda Hudafiz.

It Seems As if Sugar Has Been Poured into My Mouth.

Hazrat Thanwi رحمه الله once went to visit Hazrat Saai Tawakkul Shah Saheb رحمه الله

Saai Saheb رحمه اللهsaid to him: “Molvi Saheb! When I take the Name of Allah Ta’ala my mouth becomes sweet. ” Then he added,
“And don’t think this is just imaginary. It really becomes sweet. In fact, so sweet, it seems as if sugar has been poured into my mouth!”
(In other words, he actually physically tastes the sweetness of zikr.)

Maulana Faqir Muhammad Saheb رحمه الله  used to say:
“Sometimes (when I make zikr) I feel as if the syrup of jalebi has been poured into my mouth. ”

This is the barkat of zikr which Allah Ta’ala sometimes shows to some buzrugs in a physical sense, but not to others. Those who are not allowed to experience the physical effect of zikr are taken to towards their destination without feeling or witnessing anything. The main objective is to reach one’s destination. Some have attained high ranks but are not aware of the stages of this path. Instead they are kept uninformed of these stages.
For example, a person travelling economy class by train will pass by farms and forests, he will experience dust and dirt, and the clothes too will get dirty, but eventually the train will reach Karachi Kent (name of Karachi’s station). On the other hand, the one sitting
in the air-conditioned coach of the same train will not see any scenery outside, no dust will enter the cabin, nor will the clothes get dirty.
But at the end he too will disembark at Karachi Kent. Thus, some are shown scenery as they traverse their spiritual journey, while others travel along blissfully unaware of the scenes flashing by. In the end though, both shall reach the same destination.

Tafweez – No Greater Source of Comfort

Tafweez

No Greater Source of Comfort

(By Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi Rahmatullahi Alaih)

I wish to tell you something now which will make your worry enjoyable. I have already said that worry will never cease before entry into Jannat. Yes it is possible for worry to become enjoyable. This, too, is sort of cessation of worry. So I wish to put forward something which will be useful in all our actions, which will ward off negligence and at the time of worry one’s determination will be fortified. It is not something new. It is that same thing which is called in the Qur’aan at certain places Taqwa (piety), at certain places I’tisaam Bihablillah (holding onto the Rope or Deen of Allah) and it is also called Zikr-e-Ni’mat (Remembrance of the favours of Allah).

What I wish to draw attention to now is Islam, which as is obvious, encompasses all those concepts. But I will speak of Islam in another way, which very few people have observed and hence when we say, ‘Islam’ then the mind does not think about it. The reason for this is that the word ‘Islam’ is so common that its everyday sense is readily understood. Its purport, however, is not considered by anyone. If people just consider the literal meaning of Islam then they will be closer to the reality of Islam, which I wish to speak about today.

Listen! Islam literally means: to surrender. This is also called Tasleem (to accept) and this is what I wish to speak about now. The Soofiyah have termed this, Tafweez. This is the reality of Islam.

In the Qur’aan Islam is interpreted as Islam-e-Wajh which broadly speaking does not mean Salaat and Saum. Rather, it means Tafweez, i.e. to surrender oneself to Allah and to brace for every Act of Allah Ta’ala; whatever He wishes He can carry out, whatever order He gives is accepted. Namaaz and Roza are elements of this Tafweez, but they are not the whole make-up of it.

Allah Ta’ala says: “O those who have Imaan! Fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die but with Islam.” Here Allah Ta’ala intends that we should be constant on Islam, i.e. we should embrace Tafweez. We should not leave our grip of it for one moment. This is what I had earlier stated which makes worries enjoyable. But the enjoyment may not be as sweets and sweet dishes. Rather, its pleasure is like strong tasting savouries. One who is in the habit of eating strong foods understands this well. Hence the Aarifeen (those Buzrugs who recognise that everything is from Allah) are afflicted with all types of difficulties and pain but they find enjoyment in these difficulties. They understand that whatever The Beloved gives is pleasing and acceptable even though it may not appeal to one naturally. They place their desires at the altar of The Beloved’s desire.

Thus, do not think that after Tafweez one will not become worried or not be faced with irritating circumstances. Yes, there will be this difference that previously you used to become unhappy whereas now you will take it in your stride, just as one who loves strong foods enjoys himself with the burning chillies. Tears may flow from his eyes but he relishes the food.

In short, Tafweez is required in everything, be it a worldly matter or a Deeni matter. The Awliya utilize it from the outset whilst the people of the dunya adopt it afterwards. It does not mean that one should abandon strategy. Adopting a strategy and plan of action are not nugatory of Tafweez. Adopting a plan of action is also commanded by that Being whose Right demands Tafweez. Thus a person should adopt a course of action but leave the result to Allah Ta’ala. One should not formulate one’s own result. One’s attitude should be: Whatever He is happy with I am happy with.

The one who adopts Tafweez sets his sights from the beginning on Allah Ta’ala and adopts a course of action solely because of following the Sunnat and out of obedience unto Allah Ta’ala. His intention is never that the action must bear fruits. He leaves his success or failure in the Hands of Allah Ta’ala. He strives whether he is successful or unsuccessful. In all cases he is happy. A person who only thinks of success through his efforts will find his problems and worry endless. If he is faced with some problem or something against his grain he will grieve over his failure, whereas in Tafweez there is comfort.

There is no greater source of comfort in this world than Tafweez. You will search and search till you are dead-tired, but you won’t find anything in this world which is more comforting than Tafweez. Once, Hazrat Ibraheem bin Ad’ham missed his Tahajjud Namaaz. He was saddened by this. The following night he tried hard to stay awake but late during the night he was overcome with such sleep that his Fajr Namaaz also became Qaza. Now he became extremely uneasy and worried. He received Divine Inspiration: “O Ibraheem! You have seen the result of your plans, now adopt Tafweez. Sleep when We want you to sleep and stand for Salaah when We want you to stand for Salaah.” Hazrat Ibraheem (Rahmatullahi alaih) says: “I adopted Tafweez and found inner comfort.”

I saw a person who was an Aalim as well as a civil servant. After he retired he wished to devote himself to Zikr of Allah Ta’ala and spend his time in solitude. Behold the Qudrat of Allah Ta’ala! After commencing his Zikr and shaghl (a programme of spiritual-upliftment) his two sons lost their sanity. He was demoralized. Now he was occupied with looking after them. All his solitude and peace of mind were shattered. Some days he could not even engage in Zikr. But an Aarif is not disturbed in even this case because an Aarif does not decide for himself. As long as Allah Ta’ala keeps him in solitude he stays in solitude. And when Allah Ta’ala wants him to emerge from his seclusion then he is contented with it.

The actual goal is Allah Ta’ala’s pleasure. Just as that is gained in solitude, sometimes it is in service to creation. Did that person not perhaps gain thawaab in caring for his two sons who became insane? Off course he would have gained. In such a scenario his anxiety was the means for his elevation. At such a time peace of mind in seclusion would not have been beneficial to him. In fact, the thawaab received for looking after sick or mentally handicapped offspring is greater than making Zikr in seclusion. Why the worry then?

Bear in mind that worry revolves around having a mirage set for oneself and for one’s family. We all are caught up in this sickness. We cherish distant hopes. But when our hopes do not materialize then we are struck with anxiety and grief. Had we not decided on our fate, we would have never been overcome with worry. The Awliya-Ullah enjoy the most comfort and peace of mind. They are not afflicted with worry and remorse at anything because they have not decided a set condition for themselves. In fact, they happily and totally surrender themselves to the Will of Allah Ta’ala. This is Tafweez and this is what Islam is all about. This Tafweez is instructed in the Aayat: “…and do not die but as Muslims.” (Surah Aali Imraan, 102)

THE STATEMENT ON WEALTH BY HAZRAT MASEEHULLAH رحمه الله

Do not regard maal (wealth) as wealth. The Urdu word maal (meaning wealth) comes from the term mel (which means dirt).

This is the statement of my Hazrat Moulana Thanvi (rahmatullahi alaihi). He says that since maal is derived from mel, do we then keep dirt within us or attempt to get rid of it? Is dirt something that must be kept in the heart or in the hands? And even when keeping it in the hands, do not close the hand like this (Hazrat made a fist and pointed it upwards).

Instead, keep it facing downwards (i.e., the hand of the giver) and keep on opening the hand a little (in spending). Do not open the hand fully (thus causing wealth to be wasted by becoming spendthrift). But keep spending in small amounts.

Wealth and riches are fleeting, but faith and good deeds are essential

4. Malfoozat – The Reality of Wilayah, Du’a and Sulook

Malfoozat of Hakim ul-Ummat, Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (Rahmatullah Alaihi)

The following are from ‘Malfoozat’, a book of anecdotes by Hakim ul-Ummat, Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (Rahmatullah Alaihi):

When a woman attains nisbat-e-batini, she acquires a lofty and a wonderful pedestal. Once during a drought, people went to a saintly lady and asked her to make dua for rain. She went to a small raised platform whereon she usually performed her Namaz. She loosened her hair and swept the platform with it. After sweeping she raised her gaze towards the heaven and supplicated:
I have done the sweeping, you now sparkle the water. As she said this, rain started to come down in torrents. Humility and supplication are indeed wonderful.
– (Nisbat-e-Batini: A special, lofty relationship of proximity with Allah Taala).

A man came and requested that dua be made for him. Hadhrat Thanvi (Rahmatullah ‘alaih) said:
Brother! You too make dua and I also shall make dua.
The man said: My tongue is not fit for dua.
(In other words, he did not consider himself worthy of making dua.)
Hadhrat Thanvi (Rahmatullah Alaihi) replied: Do you recite the Kalima? The man said: Yes. Hadhrat Thanvi:
Kalimah has greater blessing than dua. How come your tongue is worthy of reciting the Kalimah? In fact, shaitan made dua at the very time when he as being cursed by Allah Ta’ala.
He supplicated: Grant me respite until the day when people will be resurrected.
Allah Ta’ala answered his dua: You are among those who have been granted respite.
When even shaitan was not deprived of acceptance of dua, how can we be deprived? Shaitan has deceived us into believing that our tongues are not worthy of making dua. People consider this attitude to be humility.

People now consider spiritual states of ecstasy (kayfiyat) to be the goal of Sulook (Tasawwuf). Even if animals at times experience certain conditions of ecstasy when influenced by music and singing. Once an expert, in a challenge, defied his opponent, saying:
You will be able to measure my expertise and excellence when you behold the wild beasts of the jungle, subservient under the sway of my influence. Let us go to the jungle and sing our songs. At that time I will put a rope around the neck of every animal. It is left then to you to remove the ropes from their necks.
They went into the forest and the expert commenced his bewitching singing. So enthralling was his singing that wild animals came out from all directions and submissively stood in is presence. He took hold of the animals one by one and put a rope around each one’s neck. He than ceased his singing; the animals scattered and disappeared into the forest. He now challenged his rival to start his singing, gather the animals and remove the ropes. However, he was rendered helpless. Emotional states are common to both man and beast. Such states in man, therefore, do not represent any achievement or excellence.

2. Malfooz of Hadhrat Moulana Maseehullah Rahmatullaahi Alayhi – Stages of Salaah

Moulana Maseehullah said: There are seven stages of Salaah, viz:

1. Salaah of the Body:
Salaah of the body is that all the Arkaan are meticulously conformed to, with relish and Shauq. The Faraa-idh, Wajibaat, Sunan, Mustahbbaat, Aadaab should be executed with the body in absolute humility and without any unnecessary movements. Qiyaam, Ruku, Qaumah, Sujood, Qaidah and even the Salaam should be performed with the body in such a manner that the body is totally in submission to Allah Azza Wajal.

The benefit of Salaah of the body is that the body will be trained to abstain from sin.

2. Salaah of the Nafs:
This stage is when the Salaah is performed in a manner that a person intentionally avoids any worldly thoughts. Just like a person should not scratch his body, so should he not scratch his brain and imagination, etc.

The benefit of Salaah of the nafs is that the nafs will dis-attach itself automatically from the love of the world. This person may be even a millionaire but his heart will be free from the negligible effects of wealth.

3. Salaah of the Heart:
Salaah of the heart means that a person avoids negligence. Hadhrat Rahmatullaahi Alayh said that if a person intentionally brings thoughts to his mind, he should punish his Nafs by repeating the Salaah. A Musalllee has a choice: He is either unmindful of negligence or he takes steps to avoid it.

The benefit of this little Mujaahadah is that the Nafs will avoid wrong worldly thoughts even when it is busy in its worldly affairs. The heart is trained in Salaah to avoid any and all forms of negligence.

4. Salaah of the Rooh:
The Salaah of the Rooh is a Salaah in which one only gazes at Allah Ta’ala. This Salaah prevents one from gazing at anything else.

The benefit of this Salaah is that one is trained NOT to gaze at any human for any benefit or to ward of any harm.

5. Salaah of the Sirr (inner self):
The Salaah of Sirr is that a person not only directs his gaze but he directs his thoughts only to Allah Ta’ala. Throughout the Salaah his Rooh cries out in bliss and yaad of his Rabb. Entertaining even a thought of a makhlooq is more repugnant to him then eating ghinzeer.

The benefit of this Salaah is that one is trained to immediately “connect” to Allah Ta’ala with the thoughts whether one is happy or grieved.

6. Salaah of Khafi (reality):
Salaah-e-Ghafi means to perform the Salaah with total inaabat in body and soul. In this Salaah, a person has left the world, his family, his wealth, etc. He has returned to Allah Ta’ala in the condition of that of the day he was born.

The benefit of this Salaah is that a person’s soul is exposed to reality. There is no hindrance in his perception of reality and the realities cemented in him that everything is perishable. This stage propels him to Haqq and expels from him the delusions which spring forth from merely that which is visible. He sees what others see not. He hears what others hear not. He perceives what others perceive not. He feels what others feel not.

7. Salaah of Akhfaa (Spiritual vision):
This is a Salaah wherein a person “sees” Allah Ta’ala (Hadhith of Ihsaan). The person is gone for Me’raaj. This is the highest form and stage of Salaah. He is close to Allah Ta’ala by a span of a bow or two.

The delight of this Salaah is such that it cooled the eyes of Nabl Salallaahu Alayhi Wasallam.

The delight is such that Jannah pales into comparison.

Did Haji Imdaadulllah Saheb Rahmatullahi Alayh not say:
“If Allah Ta’ala asks me on the Day of Qiyaamah what I wish for, I will request a Musallaah to perform Salaah under His Arsh.” Subhanallah! Not Jannat, not Hoors, not delicious food or exquisite clothing —just a Musallah.

May Allah Ta’ala grant us the taufeeq to make Fikr of Salaah our biggest Fikr in Life. (Ameen)
